Parents of Huntington Beach Edison High football players have been notified that a scheduled nine-day trip to Maui has been canceled
Athletic director Rich Boyce confirmed Wednesday. Eighty players were to leave on Thursday and play against Wailuku Baldwin on Saturday and against Lahinalulu the following Friday.
A hotel used by the Edison players is in the fire zone and going there can be dangerous, in which case the match will be cancelled.
There is also uncertainty about flights to Maui. There will be no flying here, black colored smoke is spread in the sky, which can be difficult to cross.
Now Boyce will struggle to see if he can find replacement games, although everyone will be worried about what will happen again with such a big match.
The team has been practicing for two weeks in preparation for the start of the season in Maui. "Our thoughts are with the people of Maui," Boyce said.
Football will continue in Edison. We'll find the game." When informed about the wildfire, Boyce said, the players were in shock and all were praying to Ishtar.
Football will continue in Edison because there is no shortage of sports in it, just pray to God that the people there stay safe and sound.
